We are the only independent school in Essex offering nationally recognised qualifications. We have to follow strict guidelines and offer structured courses. Our centre is audited yearly and all health & safety procedures followed.

Why waste years at college or on an inferior course.

Our dog grooming courses run all year round and cater for students from Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

We work with a limited number of trainees, Tuesday to Friday 9.00am - 4.00pm.  You can attend all 4 days or 1, 2 or 3 days a week, and we work on a first come first served basis, so if the days are available then you can book them.

We believe in continually improving our skills so that we can pass our knowledge on to you, and we guarantee you will get the very best tuition.

We offer full support after the course so you will never feel alone, we have a Facebook trainee page where you can see short videos, pictures, diary of upcoming events. Trainees are encouraged to post pictures, some post their grooms, places of work and new businesses. But rest assured there is always someone there to offer support and guidance or just a friendly chat.

As our industry grows there is more and more need for groomers to become qualified.  There is always talk of the grooming industry becoming regulated and of course the first port of call will be qualifications.

I hear all the time of groomers that have started their qualification or indeed started grooming and with all good intention want to complete a nationally recognized qualification but then their business expands leaving them no time to complete them. 

Dee for Dogs is passionate about our industry, qualifications are a way forward to ensure all groomers meet a certain standard and of course give our industry the recognition it demands.

City & Guilds Level 2 7763-02

(A prerequisite of level 3 7863-03)

This qualification is ideal for beginners or those that work within the grooming industry and would like to gain a qualification as a dog grooming assistant

To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units, including:

·      Bathing and cleaning dogs

·      Controlling and restraining animals

·      Handling payments from clients.

·      You will be required to keep a daily diary of your work and hours.

City & Guilds Level 3 7863-03

Continual support hours 380

This qualification Is for those that have completed a level 2 7763-02 and wish to move up to complete their full diploma 7863-03.

Mandatory content covers:

Health and safety, legislation and codes of practice for the dog grooming industry
Preparing, styling and finishing a dog
Health checking and handling a dog in a dog grooming environment
Customer service and record keeping in a dog grooming environment

The assessment for this qualification will require you to achieve:
A written exam which covers the knowledge and understanding within the qualification
A practical assignment which covers health checks, first aid and grooming of dogs with different coat types and for different requirements. 

You will also be required to groom 4 dogs under assessment conditions.

You will be required to complete a daily diary of your work and hours.

OCN Diploma in Dog Grooming

Open Community Network 

Level 3

The OCN Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming is a stand-alone qualification, is a RQF Registered Qualification Framework.

The course will cover

  • Styling and finishing
  • Health check of a dog
  • Promote and maintain health and wellbeing of a dog
  • Plan and record dog grooming work
  • Certificate in canine first aid
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment
  • Customer relations
  • You will be required to build a portfolio of 10 dogs.

Students completing this course will receive a comprehensive Dee for Dogs Course Manual.

Continuous guided home study until required guided learning hours are met.

All courses listed below are intended for students that are already grooming or working within the grooming industry.

Witness statements and proof of work will be required.

Assessment days listed are as a guide, additional days will be charged at £250.00 per day for 1 student up to 4 students the fee will be £350.00 a day

This Open Learning qualification is designed for those students who are already have the training and experience to Level 2 standard.

You will be required to put together a portfolio of evidence.  Proof of working within the industry and certificate will be need for this course.

This Open Leaning Course is designed for those students who are already working within the industry and who have completed their Level 2 qualification, a copy of their 7763-02 certification will need to be produed prior to registration. 


2 days assessments OCN Level 3 This course is designed for the competent groomer that is working within the industry and would like to gain a nationally recognised qualifiaction. £1400.00


Once the initial registration fee has been paid for, assessment days can be booked in advance payment can be made on booking.

For those students that have NO previous dog grooming experience but would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification we can now offer City and Guilds 7763-02  Level 2.  This ourse will be completed at our Colchester site. Hourse 10am until 3pm.

Tuition Courses for Beginners to the industry including a qualification.

Level 2 courses will include continuous guided home study until required guided learning hours are met.

Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant

Suitable for those with no prior dog grooming skills wishing to gain a recognised dog grooming qualification. Grooming assistant.

Covers handling and health checking, preparation, brushing out, bathing and drying.  

Basic clipper work, how to maintain the equipment.

Practical and theory assessment.

1 hour Gola online multiple choice exam.

Please note.  All deposits are non refundable.  Online application will get a 14 day cooling off period.  Refunds will be subject to a 50% administration fee.  If booking and commencement of the course is less that 28 days no refunds will be given.
